Bible Cross-References
"The New Testament lies hidden in the Old and the Old Testament is revealed in the New."
— Saint Augustine
About This Project
This visualization explores the relationship between the Old and New Testaments through the use of cross-references.
The visualization is interactive and allows you to scroll through the Old and New Testaments to see how the cross-references connect the two.
Old Testament to New
As we scroll through the Old Testament, watch the arcs reach forward to their fulfillment in the New Testament.
New Testament to Old
Now see how the New Testament authors constantly looked back to the Hebrew Scriptures.
Data Sources
This visualization uses the original 73-book canon that has been utilized since the early church and was officially canonized by the Council of Rome in 382 AD.
Inspiration was drawn from OpenBible.info's cross-reference visualization, with the key difference being the data sources that this visualization utilizes.
The bible translation that verses are drawn from is the Catholic Public Domain Version.
Cross-references are drawn from the Haydock Catholic Bible Commentary (1811-1859), offering a perspective grounded in patristic tradition.
These sources were selected for the easy availability given they are in the public domain. The cross-references are not exhaustive and I plan to expand this visualization in the future with more cross-reference sources.
